West Ham told to complete signing of ‘big’ Antonio replacement after confirmed news – pundit

West Ham have no excuse not to sign a striker good enough to replace Michail Antonio in the starting XI in the upcoming transfer window.

That is the view of ex-Aston Villa and England attacker Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider as Antonio’s poor form in front of goal continued.

The West Ham number nine has scored just once in his last 11 games across all competitions in domestic football.

As quoted by football.london (December 8), David Moyes revealed he hopes to sign a forward next month.

The Scot claimed they tried to bolster their attacking ranks in the summer but “nothing was there”.

“I’m a big fan of Michail Antonio, he’s a very good player,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“But he’s proved that he can go through spells where he doesn’t score. That’s when they need another striker.

“If West Ham had another striker now who was decent enough, he would have probably been dropped because of his recent form and lack of goals. They haven’t got anyone good enough so he’ll play every game.

“They definitely need to go out and get another striker. You look at Arsenal, they’ve got [Alexandre] Lacazette, [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang and [Eddie] Nketiah. Chelsea have [Romelu] Lukaku and [Timo] Werner, a big striker is always on the bench.

“There’s no reason why West Ham can’t have a big striker on the bench.

“Man United and Man City have big players on the bench. I don’t want to hear that nonsense that ‘there’s nobody out there who is good enough for West Ham’. Go out and buy a striker who is good enough to start and push Antonio.

“As a striker, if you’ve got somebody on the bench who can take your place that is going to make you play better.

“West Ham definitely need to go out and get a striker.”
