West Ham told to complete 'top goalscorer' signing after Sky's Barbosa reveal - pundit
Alan Hutton has urged West Ham to take a “risk” on signing Gabriel Barbosa from Flamengo this month.
The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Hammers need a striker and that the 25-year-old has proven himself as a “top goalscorer”.
As reported by Sky Sports on Monday (3 January), West Ham have held talks over a move for Barbosa, nicknamed ‘Gabigol’, this month.
The Brazil international is reportedly one of several striker options on David Moyes’ shortlist.
Hutton admitted signing a player plying his trade in Brazil would be a gamble for the Irons.
However, he suggested Barbosa’s record in front of goal should be enough to convince Moyes and the recruitment staff.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Of course, it’s a risk coming from Brazil to England. The Premier League is one of the toughest leagues in the world.
“You would say it’s a risk but I think someone who’s got that kind of goal-scoring power, they’re always in the right areas. His stats tell you that.
“Yes, you’re going up a level, you might not get as many opportunities to score, but if you’re in the right areas there’s always that opportunity.
“So I think West Ham need to bring somebody in, a striker. If the fee is right, it’s a good opportunity for both sides to bring someone of quality in. Why not?
“It kind of outweighs the risk. I think he has proved to everybody he can be a top goalscorer. It’s a great opportunity for him.”
According to Sky, Barbosa has scored 104 goals in 147 appearances for Flamengo to date.
He also has 17 caps and five goals under his belt for Brazil.
