West Ham told to ‘shake hands’ with Goldson after Rangers update – pundit
West Ham should “shake hands” with Rangers defender Connor Goldson over a pre-contract agreement, according to Kevin Phillips.
The former Sunderland and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the Hammers will face stiff competition for the 28-year-old’s signature if he is to leave Ibrox on a free transfer.
Goldson‘s contract with Steven Gerrard’s side is set to expire at the end of the 2021-22 season.

The Scottish Premiership champions are hopeful of the centre-half signing a new deal even though negotiations have so far proved unfruitful.
As revealed by Football Insider (16th September), the Irons are monitoring Goldson’s contract situation ahead of a potential January approach.
The English defender will be free to speak to foreign clubs regarding a pre-contract agreement in the new year.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest, Phillips said: “What a bargain he would be on a pre-contract.
“But if he is to leave Rangers in such a way I’m sure there would be plenty of club sniffing around him.

“There will be people in the background now talking to his representatives so if I’m West Ham I would try and get a handshake agreement sorted as soon as possible. Something along the lines of, ‘Don’t talk to anyone else. We’ll get a pre-contract over to you in January.’
“If they could pull that one off it would be a great signing for them.”
