Dele Alli should ‘definitely’ sign for West Ham after key Tottenham update – pundit
West Ham would be a “great fit” for Dele Alli as the Tottenham man looks to revitalise his career.
That is according to ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively after Football Insider revealed that Spurs are planning to sell Alli this summer.
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder started the last five matches of the season, partly because Tottenham were looking to put him in the shop window.
But he has broadly fallen out of favour in North London and was almost offloaded to Paris Saint-Germain in January.
Chairman Daniel Levy blocked that move as PSG were unwilling to foot a £3million loan fee, though Spurs are looking to part with Alli permanently this time around.
Kenny mooted the London Stadium as an ideal next destination for Alli, tabling the success of his compatriot Jesse Lingard as an example.
“I definitely think somewhere like West Ham would be a great fit for him,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“Just look at Lingard. If David Moyes can get Dele Alli playing, he’s one of the best footballers around.
“With injuries and whatever went on with Mourinho, it wasn’t working out towards the back end of his Spurs career.
“But he’d be a good signing for anybody when he’s bang at it. I remember his scoring past me for MK Dons years ago. It’s sad what seems to have happened to him.”
Lingard signed for the Hammers on loan from Man United in January.
He netted nine goals and provided five assists in 19 appearances for West Ham, winning Premier League Player of the Month for April along the way.
