West Ham told to sign four new players as £100m raid mooted – expert

West Ham have been told to sign four new defenders this summer in a transfer raid which could cost over £100million.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Frank McAvennie insisted David Sullivan will have to spend upwards of the nine-figure fee on new players in the transfer window.

It was said that two new centre-backs should be the club’s priority, in what has been labelled an “interesting” period for the club.

This comes after the former Hammers striker explained that the current back four will have to be moved on this summer as they are not good enough.

This comes after Football Insider revealed that the Hammers have agreed personal terms with Flamengo defender Fabricio Bruno, and will target another deal on top of his move.

McAvennie insisted big money will need to be spent to improve the squad, primarily on defenders, given the quality of forward players at the club.

Oh god, yeah, he’s got to spend that,” he told Football Insider when asked whether the club would spend £100million in the transfer window.

Let’s go and get some decent players.

Get two centre-halves. Decent centre-halves. I would think they’ve got to get a completely new back four. Just go and get people who want to win the ball.

With the midfield players and the strikers that we’ve got, that’s all we need. Get people that want to defend, give it to somebody that can play and get on with it.

First and foremost, get four guys that want to defend.

It’s going to be an interesting summer, that’s for sure.”
