West Ham told to sign ‘young star for £50m’ after source’s reveal – Agbonlahor

West Ham will not receive positive feedback if a deal for Harry Maguire goes through.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed that the Hammers are potentially overspending on James Ward-Prowse and Maguire.

The 30-year-old has been stripped of the Man United captaincy after being dropped by Erik ten Hag last season and has been heavily linked with an exit this summer.

The defender still has two years remaining on his Old Trafford contract but has fallen down the pecking order at United and is likely to be a back up option for the upcoming campaign.

Football Insider revealed on Monday that West Ham are submitting a second Maguire bid after their opening offer of £20m was rejected.

According to The Sun (16 July), Chelsea are considering entering the race for Maguire, who is already attracting interest from West Ham, Tottenham and Newcastle United.

With a potential move to West Ham on the cards, Agbonlahor believes that the Hammers’ supporters won’t approve of a potential expensive deal.

“Maguire would be a very good signing for West Ham,” he told Football Insider.

“But the problem is with fanbases is that, is they won’t be happy by spending £80million on James Ward-Prowse and Harry Maguire, which only gives them £20million left.

“West Ham fans will feel like that isn’t money will spent, signing a young star for £50million, and using the rest of the money to sign more experience could be the better method.

“To keep the fans happy, West Ham will need to get a real star in, as teams have misused money before after selling their best player, as the club will go on to sgn five or six players that struggle to make an impact.”
