Kieran Maguire tells West Ham to ‘take the money’ after official announcement

West Ham are set to make “additional revenue for no additional cost” with their latest commercial partnership.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Irons announced a deal with UFL on 25 August.

West Ham will lend their image rights to the as-yet-unreleased football video game.

West Ham commercial chief Nathan Thompson claimed he was “thrilled” to partner with UFL as the latest step in their esports strategy.

The Hammers pocketed just under £26million in commercial income over the last financial year.

And Maguire insists that no-cost commercial deals like the one with UFL are a no-brainer for the East London club.

“It’s zero cost to the club,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“The only downside is if the game turns out to be one of these where you have to pay to open boxes all the time.

If that’s the case, there’s danger of reputational damage. But if it’s not one of those, and I must stress I’m not familiar with the game itself, take the money.

“It’s additional revenue for no additional cost. There’s a lot of money in football video games. They make a fortune out of it.”

West Ham have signed a new deal with Carlsberg and renewed their sleeve sponsorship with Scope Markets over the summer.

They have begun the season in fine form with two wins from their opening two league games.
