West Ham told to terminate Kalvin Phillips deal after latest twist – expert
Frank McAvennie has claimed West Ham loanee Kalvin Phillips has “no chance” of being recalled by England for the European Championships later this year.
The former Irons and Scotland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 28-year-old is “nowhere near the team” and should be sent back to parent club Man City.
Phillips was left out of Gareth Southgate’s most recent England squad – with 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo instead getting the chance to impress.
The 31-cap star was an unused substitute for West Ham’s most recent game against Aston Villa – and has played just 283 minutes since joining the Londoners on loan in January.
Football Insider revealed last month (8 February) that David Moyes’ side paid a £3million loan fee to land Phillips and are also covering his £140,000-a-week wage.
Phillips has ‘no chance’ after West Ham blunders, says expert
The ex-Leeds star is under contract at Man City until June 2028.
McAvennie told Football Insider: “He can’t get in the West Ham side, so he’s got no chance of getting in the England squad.
“I just don’t know what’s happening with Phillips.
“I thought he would be decent, I’ve always said I’d like him at West Ham in that holding role – but he’s already made a few big mistakes.
“He didn’t play against Aston Villa – he’s nowhere near the team.
“It’s funny how Soucek has stepped up since Phillips has come in, scoring goals and starting to look like the player he was at the beginning of his time at West Ham. It’s a wonderful thing, competition.
“I’d send Phillips back, and terminate the deal, because he’s not going to play. But that’s what you get for being greedy and going to Man City.

“To be an international, especially with England – you’ve got to play every week.
“There’s Bellingham and Rice in front of him. It’s the dream partnership.”
