West Ham told to terminate Kalvin Phillips deal by expert
West Ham United should cancel Kalvin Phillips’ loan move as he has proved ineffectual.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hammers and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie slammed the midfielder for failing to make an impact and wanted the Irons to save on his mega-money wages.
The 28-year-old’s move has not gone to plan so far and he has made multiple mistakes with just six games under his belt at the London club.
He has done little to impress the fanbase and was hauled off at halftime in West Ham’s last Premier League game against Burnley on Sunday (3 March) with his side 2-0 down.
Kalvin Phillips has “not done anything” at West Ham
Phillips was also dropped from Gareth Southgate’s most recent England squad – another sign of his on-field woes.
McAvennie suggested that Phillips could be in David Moyes’ long-term plans, but had little faith that he could turn his fortunes around at the London Stadium.
“He can’t blame a lack of game time anymore,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s just not hit the ground running – he’s not done anything!
“There’s a reason he never got a game at Man City.
“Obviously it’s hard to get into that team, but he’s not fitting into Moyes’ team either.
“When he came it, it looked like he tried too hard and that’s when things can go against you.
“I’d just send him back – why are they paying his wages?
“Send him back to City and let them pay his wages again.
“If he’s not playing, why is he still there?
“He’s not a player for next year unless David has plans to keep him and make him integral for next season.

“That might work because Phillips likes to sit in and allow the other boys to attack.
“But he’s been poor.”
