Pundit points to revealing Moyes comments as West Ham plot big-money Wood deal
West Ham will not splash out between £30million and £40m on Chris Wood as David Moyes was unwilling to pay a similar fee for Tammy Abraham.
That is according to ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively after Football Insider revealed on 4th June that the Hammers are keen on signing the Burnley striker.
The 56-cap New Zealand international finished the season strongly and netted eight goals in his last 11 Premier League appearances.
West Ham face competition from Everton and Aston Villa to secure the 29-year-old who Burnley value at least £30m but potentially as much as £40m.
But when asked by Sky Sports whether he might consider a move for the 23-year-old, Hammers boss Moyes ruled himself out on account of the price tag.
Kenny cited the chaotic nature of the transfer market in the pandemic era but claimed that Wood shouldn’t be valued on the same level as Abraham.
He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “It’s one of them. With Covid, we don’t know who’s willing to pay what.
“Burnley might not want to sell him and be pricing them out with this. It’s a lot of money for that standard of player.
“It shows you how much transfers have changed. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a good player but £30m? Wow.
“If he isn’t going to pay that for Tammy Abraham then he isn’t going to pay that for Chris Wood. Abraham is a lot younger.”
