‘West Ham want Morton in Liverpool double-swoop amid Elliott talks update’

West Ham want to raid Liverpool for two players as Graham Potter steps up the Hammers’ summer transfer business.

Incomings at the London Stadium have been few so far, and West Ham need to replace key player Mohammed Kudus who left to join rivals Tottenham.

Potter has added two new defenders to his ranks with the free signing of Kyle Walker-Peters from Southampton, and the permanent purchase of Jean-Clair Todibo.

Midfielder El Hadji Malick Diouf has also arrived from Slavia Prague, but Potter is also targeting a new goalkeeper, midfielders and a striker.

Hammers currently priced out of double deal

West Ham are exploring a move for Liverpool star Harvey Elliott, and they also want to purchase Tyler Morton from the Reds.

Elliott starred at the Under-21 Euros with England, prompting fellow Premier League club’s to also ignite their interest in the midfielder.

The 22-year-old scored five goals in the tournament including a brace in the semi-final win over the Netherlands and the opening goal against Germany in the final.

However, The Daily Mail report West Ham could be priced out a move for the duo.

“The club are keen and remain in talks with Liverpool but, currently, the asking price of around £50m is way too high,” it was claimed.

“The possibility of a loan with a later option to buy is being discussed.

“West Ham would like to make, what you might call, a ‘double swoop’ for Elliott and all-action midfielder Liverpool team-mate Tyler Morton but again finances make that tough.”

Football Insider Verdict

West Ham needs a player like Elliott to add pace, creativity and dynamism to the squad, which they were desperately lacking in last season.

The Hammers are short of natural goal scorers, and rely heavily on captain Jarrod Bowen, but Elliott’s arrival would help ease the burden on the 28-year-old.

Morton is a player for the future as the 22-year-old did not feature for Liverpool in the Premier League last season.

The midfielder only made a handful of appearances in cup competitions, but his athleticism would help the Hammers in the middle of the park.

The pair are unlikely to be given opportunities to play regularly at Liverpool due to the quality that manager Arne Slot has at his disposal.

Following his Euro triumph with the Under-21s, Elliott will harbour aspirations to break into Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.

Tuchel has plenty of attacking talent at his disposal, but Elliott could make a claim to be part of the World Cup squad in America next summer if he impresses at West Ham.
