Wharton, Nketiah react to Trevoh Chalobah’s post amid Crystal Palace return news

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah attracted the attention of Crystal Palace stars as speculation swirls around a return to Selhurst Park.

The 25-year-old academy graduate played the full 90 minutes as the Blues celebrated a 4-1 win to beat Real Betis and Man United‘s Antony in the Europa Conference League final on Wednesday, 28 May.

He has massively impressed since returning from a six-month loan at Selhurst Park, now helping his boyhood club to silverware and Champions League qualification at Stamford Bridge.

However, the centre-back’s future remains uncertain ahead of the summer transfer window, with the Daily Mail reporting (21 May) that Palace could look to re-sign Chalobah on a permanent deal.

There are concerns over Marc Guehi’s next destination amid interest from Newcastle United, and Chalobah clearly remains in contact with his former teammates at Selhurst Park.

Taking to Instagram (29 May), Chalobah wrote: “CHAMPIONS!!” as celebrations continued after the Europa Conference League final in Poland, catching the attention of many on social media.

Teammates Fernandez and Marc Cucurella were joined by ex-Blues duo Christian Pulisic and Fikayo Tomori, as well as Crystal Palace duo Adam Wharton and Eddie Nketiah, in liking the post.

Oliver Glasner to plan for all eventualities at Crystal Palace

Football Insider verdict

With multiple Palace stars being linked with exits, Oliver Glasner needs to remain realistic as the summer transfer window approaches, and expect the squad to look slightly different for next season.

Guehi’s future is not the only concern, with Football Insider understanding that Eberechi Eze is unlikely to stay at Palace despite winning the FA Cup with the Eagles at Wembley Stadium this season.

Wharton has also been heavily linked with an exit this summer, with his performances earning him his debut for the England national team, and Tyrick Mitchell is also a doubt for next season.

Mick Brown, however, told Football Insider that Palace are determined to keep Jean-Philippe Mateta at Selhurst Park this summer despite several links with a bigger Premier League move.

It is highly unlikely that Glasner will lose all of these big names over the coming weeks, but given how advanced some of the rumours are around Guehi, it makes sense to sign Chalobah once again.
