Darren Bent has been left raving over Everton midfielder Andre Gomes as he tries to explain why he is such a good player.
The former Aston Villa and Tottenham striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor, has lauded the 26-year-old for the manner in which he plays, highlighting how he is always trying to make something happen.
The Portugal international was sidelined for three months through injury back in November, making his first start back in the 1-1 draw with Manchester United.
Having been questioned by his son about why he is such a fan of Gomes, Bent has tried to explain what the former Barcelona man brings to Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
Bent told Football Insider: “What a player he is, I tried to explain to my little boy about how good he is, he was like: ‘Why’s he so good?’
“I just said composure on the ball, always wants to pass the ball forward, always relaxed in possession, always makes an angle. I love watching him play.
“Even when he loses to ball, he’s still brave enough to try things and I’m a big fan of his. I think he’s going to be a big plus for them.”
Gomes, who initially arrived at Goodison Park on loan from Barcelona, has played 40 times for the Toffees so far, his one and only goal coming against Wolves last season.
He has played a total of 11 times across all competitions this season.
In other Everton news, Paul Robinson has heralded an “outstanding” development at Goodison Park.
