‘What are you on about?’ – Jamie O’Hara in disbelief over live-on-air Harry Maguire claim
Thomas Tuchel is believed to have missed a trick when not selecting Harry Maguire for the latest England squad.
Harry Maguire was disappointed after Man United’s draw with Fulham last month, and while he scored against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup, his side were ultimately sent crashing out of the competition.
The 32-year-old veteran has slipped down Ruben Amorim‘s pecking order, with Luke Shaw, Matthijs de Ligt, and Leny Yoro ahead of him, and he has not been in the England squad since September 2024.
Man United are adamant about not selling Maguire, even despite his lack of minutes so far this season, but he could be offered an escape route by the international team ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Thomas Tuchel urged to recall Harry Maguire to the England squad
Reacting as England thrashed Serbia 5-0 on Tuesday, 9 September, one fan believed that the Three Lions were missing Maguire at the back, and Jamie O’Hara could not quite believe what he was hearing.
“I think Tuchel was missing something really big here – Harry Maguire,” Neil, the England fan, said on talkSPORT (9 September), to which O’Hara said: “What do you mean?”
Neil continued: “Maguire is the man. No other defender in the Premier League can bring the ball out like him, one who can spot a pass, and he always seems to be on the end of something towards the goal.”
O’Hara, rather stunned, replied: “Neil, what are you on about? We haven’t conceded a goal in qualifying. What about [Ezri] Konsa and [Marc] Guehi?”
The host was then asked to name another defender, other than John Stones, who can bring the ball out of defence, to which he said: “Konsa and Guehi, the two who played tonight. They haven’t conceded a goal in 10-and-a-half hours!”

Although Noni Madueke stole the headlines for England, Guehi and Konsa both scored their first goals for the national team, while also putting in stellar performances for the Three Lions.
Dan Burn and Jarell Quansah were both ready on the bench, but after almost faultless displays from the duo, neither was needed to be called upon by Tuchel.

While Stones is one of the nation’s most talented centre-backs, his injury record means he cannot be relied upon, and the same can be said about Maguire due to his lack of minutes on the pitch.
It seems unlikely that the Man United man will be called up ahead of the 2026 World Cup, but if he can get a run in the team this season, that could all change ahead of next year.
