'What happened to him?' - Exclusive: Danny Mills tears into big Everton disappointment

Danny Mills has slammed Michael Keane as the biggest disappointment at Everton this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former England defender highlighted how the centre-back has gone backwards this season just when he was expected to be a key man for club and country.

Keane was the centre-back who made way today as caretaker manager Duncan Ferguson opted to pair Yerry Mina and Mason Holgate in the centre of defence in the goalless draw against Arsenal at Goodison Park.

The 26-year-old was a second-half substitute for Fabian Delph after 72 minutes as Everton eked out a point in an underwhelming clash.

Asked by Football Insider to name the biggest disappointment at Everton this season, Mills was emphatic.

“I think Michael Keane has been disappointing, started off in the England team and now can’t seem to get in the side.

“Everton defensively have had problems and issues, and I think he was one that they were
hoping would be a mainstay.

“What happened to him? He had a good spell at the backend of last season, but he hasn’t kicked on.”

Keane was omitted from the starting XI after starting Everton’s four previous Premier League matches.

But, with Fabian Delph restored to central midfield, Holgate dropped back to partner Mina in a clear sign that Keane is the odd one out among the senior centre-backs when Everton play a flat back four.

In other Everton news, it can be REVEALED that Carlo Ancelotti sought assurances over the futures of two players before agreeing to sign up as manager.
