Darren Bent insists that Leeds United have “got to get to the root of the problem” with Jean-Kevin Augustin as the striker continues to be missing through injury.
The former Aston Villa and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, has questioned whether the 23-year-old is following the necessary procedures away from the club to ensure he recovers fully.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Bielsa revealed the French hitman would be missing for Sunday’s visit to Cardiff as he has been unable to fully shake off the hamstring injury which kept him out pre-lockdown.
The striker has only played three times for Leeds since his loan move from RB Leipzig back in January.
Bent admits that questions need to start being asked of Augustin’s recovery methods, suggesting that he may not be doing all he can away from the training ground to get fully fit.
Asked if a niggling problem was more of a concern than a fresh injury, Bent told Football Insider: “Yeah, because now you’re asking questions of what is actually going on here, why can’t he get past it?
“Maybe you have to look at his recovery, look at what’s going on off the field because sometimes, there have been some occasions where you can do all the rehab and everything you want with the player but you can only control them when they’re in the building, in work hours.
“You don’t know what’s going on when he’s at home, is he taking the proper precautions? That’s one situation, if I was Leeds, I would monitor carefully because I’m sure Leeds’ fitness department and medical department will be top-notch.
“You’d have to say what is going on, you’ve got to get to the root of the problem.”
