Ruben Loftus-Cheek would be a “very, very good” addition to the Aston Villa starting XI, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested there would be “no risk” taking the powerhouse Chelsea man on a temporary basis next season.
The Daily Star claim Aston Villa are plotting a loan bid for the 25-year-old this summer.
It is said Chelsea are to offer Loftus-Cheek to clubs and that John Terry is a huge admirer after playing together at Stamford Bridge.
Whelan insisted the midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Fulham, could be a fantastic signing for the Villans.
“They’ve got Douglas Luiz but I think he brings something different,” Whelan told Football Insider
“He likes to drive with the ball, he’s a bit more forward-thinking. I saw him shine for Fulham and I think he can tick most of the boxes as a midfield player.
“He likes to get forward and link up, he can do to defensive duties, he brings you height and power as well. I don’t think he’d be a risk for anybody if you’re going to be taking him out on loan, absolutely not.
“I think it’d be a very, very good addition to anyone’s squad. Again, 25, he’s not even in his best years yet. There’s no risk on taking him on loan at another Premier League club. We know he can play in the Premier League.
“I think the only problem is he’s been in and out of sides. He really needs a good stable, solid run of games in a team to really get that confidence and bring out the best in him.
“He’s been in and out. Starting for Fulham, then on the bench for Fulham. I think sometimes you need a manager who trusts you to play week in week out. Then we’ll see the best of Ruben Loftus-Cheek.”
Loftus-Cheek started 21 times in 30 Premier League appearances for Fulham last term.
He has a total of 108 top-flight games under his belt to date.
