Noel Whelan heaped praise on Robin Koch and claimed that the Leeds United defender is looking like the next Ben White.
The former Whites and Coventry striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, compared the 24-year-old to 2019/20 Leeds loan sensation White following his performance against Wolves.
Koch has started all five of Marcelo Bielsa’s side’s Premier League fixtures this season, settling into the right centre-half role after a shaky start which saw him concede penalties against Liverpool and Fulham in his first two games.
The Germany international was signed from Freiburg this summer following the news that Ben White, who spent the 2019/20 campaign at Elland Road, would remain at Brighton.
Whelan suggested that Koch is now stepping into the void vacated by the Englishman.
“I think Robin Koch had his best game in a Leeds United shirt. He dominated Jimenez up front.
“He looked very comfortable on the ball and was driving out when he was allowed to. Koch looked very much like the new Ben White on Monday night, quite frankly. His positioning was fantastic. He just seems to get better and better with each game.”
Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been rocked by defensive injuries of late with Liam Cooper and summer signing Diego Llorente sidelined after the international break.
The Whites are hopeful that Cooper, who missed the 1-0 loss to Wolves with a groin injury, will be fit to face Aston Villa on tomorrow night.
