Whelan cites Brentford as Celtic submit Wyke offer
Noel Whelan claims Celtic should be aiming higher in the transfer market than League One players.
However, the former Aberdeen hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted there are still “gems” to be found in the lower leagues.
Football Insider revealed on 16 June the Hoops are in talks with Wyke about a long-term deal and the latest from a Celtic source is that he has been offered terms.
Wyke had an outstanding 2020/21 campaign, scoring 30 goals in 53 appearances last season.
Celtic are in need of a rebuild after a disastrous Scottish Premiership campaign.
Bristol Live also claim Celtic are targeting Oxford United defender Rob Atkinson.

When asked if Celtic should be aiming to sign players from higher divisions, Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, “Yeah, you would think so.
“There aren’t many players you would choose to sign from League One, that’s the problem.
“Wyke, for me, would add something different to Celtic. He can bring other people into play and is more robust.
“But he’s certainly not Odsonne Edouard. He finished the season very strong. We always think Rangers and Celtic should be looking in Europe for internationals.
“We also know, like Brentford, you can get some gems from League One.”
Brentford have had great success in signing talented younger players from League One.
Ivan Toney is the most obvious example as he fired the Bees to Premier League promotion last season.
