Whelan verdict on Leeds hijacking Norwich bid to sign Gunn
Noel Whelan wants Angus Gunn to challenge Illan Meslier for the number one spot if he joins Leeds United.
The former Whites hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims Gunn could be a useful signing.
Football Insider revealed last Saturday (12th June) that Leeds are trying to hijack Gunn’s move from Southampton to Norwich.
The Yorkshire giants are hopeful of offloading Kiko Casilla and have identified Gunn as a replacement.
Meslier, 21, had an impressive debut Premier League campaign last term, keeping 11 clean sheets.
The Frenchman made 35 league appearances in total.

Whelan doesn’t want to see anyone happy to sit on the bench at Leeds and claimed Gunn’s experience could be useful to the side.
“I don’t want anyone at Leeds who isn’t going to be challenging for a position,” Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“It doesn’t matter where you come in, you want to be pushing the other players in that position.
“That’s the only way you get better and more determined, it keeps your standards high.
“No one who comes to Leeds United should be happy with sitting on the bench. If they are, they shouldn’t be here.
“You need healthy competition. We need experience and Gunn certainly brings that as well as being a top-class player.”
Angus is the son of Norwich legend Brian Gunn and is a graduate of Manchester City’s academy.
Brian told talkSPORT in 2016 Pep Guardiola had personally blocked Angus from leaving the club on loan after he was left impressed with his performances in pre-season.
