‘You’re looking at a £20m player’ – Whelan in awe of Rangers left footer after win
Rangers could have a potential £20million star in summer freebie Joe Aribo.
That is according to ex-Aberdeen and Leeds United striker Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the left-footed midfielder following his starring role against Hibernian.
Aribo scored a superbly-taken goal in Rangers’ 3-0 win at Easter Road last night as they narrowed the gap on Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic to two points.
The left-footed ace has been pushed forward from a deeper role to the right side of the attack in recent matches after swapping positions with Scott Arfield and made a big impact.
He scored his sixth goal for Steven Gerrard’s side since joining on a free transfer in the summer following the expiry of his Charlton Athletic deal.
“I’ve been impressed by him,” Whelan told Football Insider. “He’s good on the ball, got a great left foot and can play in tight spaces and with his back to goal.
“He’s at a different level to a lot of the Rangers players, no disrespect to them, and I can only see him improving under Steven Gerrard.
“You’re looking at a £20million player if he continues to improve. He’s definitely a Premier League player in the making.”
Aribo has made 30 appearances in all competitions for Rangers, scoring six goals and supplying four assists.
He rejected a long-term contract at Charlton in the summer after playing a key role in their promotion to the Championship.
In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the club have landed a SENSATIONAL near-£20million windfall.
