Noel Whelan is in awe of Ryan Jack after the Rangers midfielder scored a “simply brilliant goal” against Kilmarnock on Saturday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aberdeen and Leeds United striker hailed the “special” moment on what was a “tougher” afternoon than expected for Steven Gerrard’s side.
Jack scored the only goal of the game as the Light Blues maintained their 18 point lead over second-placed Celtic with a 1-0 win over Killie at Ibrox.

It was the second time the midfielder has found the back of the net this season and the first time since he returned from a serious knee injury last month.
When asked for his assessment of Jack’s performance, Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs: “It was a simply brilliant goal.
“They are grinding out the wins at the moment Rangers. Every game gets a little bit tougher when you are at the top so the clean sheet was crucial once again.
“What a goal it was from Jack though. That was a special, special strike. Talk about technique and composure, it was all there. There were some fantastic volleys over the weekend but that was a tremendous volley.
“Celtic are finding their feet again so it is all about results for Rangers. It does not matter how the points come. It is about getting over the line now.”
