Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips would be an excellent addition to an already fantastic Aston Villa side, according to Noel Whelan.
The Villans are reportedly plotting to launch a bid for the Elland Road star this summer after sealing promotion back to the top flight and former Whites striker Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, says that Phillips would slot alongside John McGinn with ease.
The Telegraph claim that Villa are to launch a £14million bid for Phillips’ capture, Leeds said to be looking for a figure closer to £20million, and Whelan admitted that while he would rather see the midfielder at Elland Road, the prospect of him in the middle was exciting for Villa.
Asked about the midfield duo linking up, the former Leeds man told Football Insider: “You’re getting a fantastic player who’s going into an already fantastic side with great players. We knew that last season.
“We knew that when they started coming good at the end of the season because they had a very good manager in Dean Smith as well. It took a bit of time to get that momentum under the new manager and the direction, the formation, the style but in the end it came good.
“For him (Phillips) to fit into there would be pretty easy with the players you’ve got in front of you and behind you. Personally I wouldn’t want to see him go!”
McGinn played 44 times for Villa during his first season at the club after his move from Hibernian, earning plenty of plaudits for his performances in the middle of the park which included seven goals and 10 assists.
His final strike of the campaign came in the play-off final versus Derby, scoring the all important second in a 2-1 victory.
In other Aston Villa news, it can be REVEALED that a deal is all but done for the Villans to snap up a Premier League powerhouse.
