Whelan hails Firpo 'big boost' and expects tactics overhaul for Leeds v Liverpool
Noel Whelan has claimed it would be a “big boost” for Leeds United if Junior Firpo is fit to face Liverpool this weekend.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Whites striker said the return of the 25-year-old would be greatly beneficial to Marcelo Bielsa’s side as it would allow Stuart Dallas to move back into midfield.
Firpo missed the 1-1 draw at Burnley prior to the international break because of Covid.
The summer signing’s isolation period has now passed and it is hoped that he will be fit and available for selection for Sunday’s visit of Liverpool.
As quoted by Yorkshire Evening Post on Saturday, Jack Harrison told BBC Radio Leeds that he expects to strike a fruitful partnership with Firpo this season.
Whelan backed the pair to form a “fantastic” relationship on the left-hand side.

“It would be a big boost to have him back because it would allow Dallas to go back into the midfield,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.
“The energy he gives you in there is second to none.
“He likes to get forward and into the 18-yard box to create and score goals. His energy in an attacking-sense will be vital against Liverpool. He gets on the ball, links up play and let’s not forget he does a great job defensively as well.
“It would also be good to have a recognised left-back [Firpo] out there as well. He can keep building on that relationship with Jack Harrison.”
Speaking about Firpo, Harrison told BBC Radio Leeds: “Once he settles into our style I think he can really help unravel some great attacking opportunities on the left with myself.
“He’s a great addition to the squad. I think everyone is really excited to have him here and everyone can see what he can bring.”
