Whelan: I would go ‘absolutely ballistic’ at Furuhashi after Celtic-Rangers controversy
Noel Whelan insists Ryan Christie will be fuming with Kyogo Furuhashi after a flashpoint during Celtic v Rangers.
The former Aberdeen hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, couldn’t believe what he saw in the late stages of Sunday’s Old Firm.
With just a few minutes remaining at Ibrox, and Celtic 1-0 down, Furuhashi found himself in on goal.
Instead of squaring the ball to Christie, who may have slotted into an empty net, the Japan international drew a big save from Robbie McCrorie.
Furuhashi had been in electric form in front of goal, bagging six goals in his previous seven games in all competitions.
Whelan insists he would be going ballistic if he was in the same position as Christie.
When asked if Christie will be fuming with his teammate, Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs, “Oh yeah, it’s all about making the right decisions.
“It’s about what’s best for the team and if he passes that across it’s a goal, simple.
“If I was in that position I would be going absolutely ballistic. It’s a way to get back into the game and scoring a goal that can change matches.
“Those are defining moments and the awareness just wasn’t there.“

Celtic narrowly lost Sunday’s Old Firm after Filip Helander bagged a winner in the second half, nodding in a Borna Barisic corner.
The Hoops are next in action against Ross County after the international break.
