Whelan: I'm 'sick and tired' of Klopp at Liverpool after latest reveal

Noel Whelan has told Jurgen Klopp to stop “whinging” about the festive fixture list at Liverpool.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he is “sick and tired” of top managers complaining about the scheduling of games.

Speaking at his press conference on Monday (December 27th), Klopp insisted the fixture list is “not right” and revealed he would “not stop discussing it”.

Whelan admitted he understands where the German manager is coming from.

However, he urged the Liverpool boss to focus on the games instead of complaining about them.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “He’s just got to get on with it because it is what it is. Nothing’s going to change despite your whinging about it.

“I do understand what they’re talking about when you look at the number of injuries that the players are getting, the intensity of how they train and what they put into the matches.

“But when I go back to when we played. We were playing a game every two days over Christmas. I think we had about four or five games in 12 or 13 days.

“You know what the fixture list is when they come out. At Christmas time, we know it’s going to be a busy month. You’ve got Tuchel doing it as well. I’m sick and tired of it.

“You don’t see the smaller clubs, like Burnley and people like that, whinging about it too much. They’ve got a small squad. Liverpool and Chelsea can put out a second team full of internationals.

“Let’s be right about this. I understand where they’re coming from. They’re chasing down to win the title.

“But there are teams chasing the stay in the Premier League, with smaller squads and less money. The bigger clubs have players who probably cost more money than teams have out on the field.

“They’ve just got to get on with it. It is what it is, nothing’s going to change by you having a whinge. I’m sick of hearing it, quite frankly.”

Liverpool had their Boxing Day fixture against Leeds United postponed.

They lost 1-0 to Leicester, who had played Manchester City two days prior, on Tuesday.
