Noel Whelan has suggested Leeds United sensation Ben White may be sold for £20million-plus in January and loaned back for the second half of the season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-United forward is in no doubt that the on-loan Brighton defender is destined for the very top.
Whelan is concerned that White’s “amazing” performances in the first half of the campaign have put him on the radar of top-six Premier League clubs.
One growing possibility, claims the man who watches all of Leeds’ matches as a radio pundit, is that Brighton are forced to cash in on White in the January window.
“Marcelo Bielsa has suggested he is not expecting much to happen in January, but that may change,” Whelan told Football Insider. “Is Ben White getting sold?
“If a big offer of £25-30million comes in from a top-six Premier League club, Brighton are going to find that very hard to turn down.
“There are lots of reasons for Leeds to be worried, as he is not their player and has a mid-season recall clause.
“I can see Ben White going to a club like Man United and then being loaned back to Leeds for the rest of the season. He is an amazing defender who’s easily good enough for the top of the Premier League.”
White, 22, has made a huge impact at Leeds this season despite never previously playing in the Championship or in the Premier League.
He has made just two appearances for parent club Brighton in all competitions, and had spent each of the previous two seasons on loan in League One and League Two at Peterborough United and Newport County respectively.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that Manchester United have set their sights on duo have are “blowing away” their scouts.
