Whelan backs £90m Richarlison deal to be given Everton green light
Noel Whelan has suggested Everton would consider selling Richarlison for up to £90million amid reported interest from Real Madrid.
The former Premier League striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Toffees may cash in a year-and-a-half after reportedly turning down an £85million offer from Barcelona.
Football Insider broke the news on 3 June that former Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has set his sights on luring the 24-year-oldto the Santiago Bernabeu.
It is said while talks are at an early stage, Madrid’s interest could materialise into a bid this summer.
Whelan suggested Richarlison would want to play at the highest level possible after establishing himself as a Brazil mainstay.
He claimed that if Rafael Benitez could not convince him Everton could reach those heights, the Toffees could cash in.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Richarlison is a number one fixture for Brazil. We do know they’ve already fended off approaches from Barcelona for this player.
“How long can they do that? If money comes, and it’s a big amount of money – it’s got to be close to the £80-90million to prise him away – it would be hard to turn down for Everton.
“They do have a good squad. I’m sure they’ll go into the market and strengthen again. They’ve got a new stadium on the horizon as well but for that new stadium, you need European football.
“There’s a process that needs to be put into action. I think there was last year with Ancelotti but now it’s taken a step back. It’s a back to the drawing board, so to speak.
“Rafa Benitez needs to assure these players that his appointment is the right appointment.
“That he can take them to the next level where these players want to be playing on the biggest stage.”
