It will be a “huge boost” for Leeds United to have Rodrigo Moreno available for this weekend’s visit of Arsenal, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Whites and Coventry striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, heaped praise on the 29-year-old who was “fit, hungry and lively” before his enforced absence.
Rodrigo is set to return to Marcelo Bielsa’s side on Sunday having missed back-to-back 4-1 losses against Leicester City and Crystal Palace while self-isolating for 14 days.
The club-record £27million signing has scored once in his six Premier League outings this season and produced an eye-catching display against Aston Villa last month.
Whelan suggested Leeds are significantly weakened when Rodrigo is not available.
“It will be a huge boost to have him back,” he told Football Insider.
“It is important that we get the new signings into the fold as soon as possible. We bought them because of the quality them bring to the side.
“Rodrigo was getting into his stride before the isolation period. We saw a player that was fit, hungry and lively.
“Watching his first goal against Manchester City and then his performance against Aston Villa, I thought to myself, ‘We have got a real player on our hands here.’
“But then it has stopped and I guess that is the way of the world right now. It is going to be like that throughout the season.
“It shows how much it weakens us as a side and as an 18 when he is not there.”
