Whelan: Rangers have pulled off 'great signing' after Gerrard sold the dream last season
Noel Whelan claims Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister played a “huge” role in luring John Lundstram to Rangers.
The former Aberdeen hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, was left impressed by the Gers’ latest signing.
On Monday (5th July), Rangers confirmed Lundstram has signed a three-year deal with the club after leaving Sheffield United.
The 27-year-old was released by the Blades last month after rejecting fresh terms.
He fell out of favour at Bramall Lane last season as he stalled on signing a new deal.
Whelan claims Gerrard and McAllister should take a lot of the praise for Lundstram’s capture.

“It’s a testament to Gerrard and how the club is run,” Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.
“They targeted him last season with him coming out of contract and they probably sold the club to him.
“That’s why he didn’t sign a new deal with Sheffield United. He’s a great signing.
“He’s very physical, competitive and he loves to get forward.
“I’m sure the fact that Gerrard and McAllister are there was a huge attraction to him.
“He’s Premier League quality and he’s now playing in the Scottish Premiership.
“Looking at the way things are going, Rangers are going to be the team to beat again next season.”
Lundstram impressed during his debut Premier League season two years ago.
He picked up five goals and three assists in 34 outings during the 2019-20 campaign.
