Whelan slams Tottenham stars after Sutton's Nuno claim pre-Mura
Noel Whelan has claimed the star players at Tottenham deserve a portion of the blame for their poor recent form.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted Nuno Espirito Santo “deserves time” to turn the tide as disgruntlement grows at Spurs.
Ex-striker Chris Sutton, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club, said the 47-year-old ex-Wolves boss wasn’t the “right fit” at the club, adding that he doesn’t think he can get the fans onside.
Espirito Santo made a worrying statement after Tottenham fell 3-1 away at Arsenal, admitting he got his team selection wrong for the derby clash.
Spurs rocketed to the summit of the Premier League table following three wins from their first three games.
Whelan suggested Tottenham’s fast start may have contributed to the pressure Espirito Santo is facing.

“Every manager deserves the time to turn it around, this pressure is ridiculous,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury
“You can’t blame it all on Nuno – at the end of the day, it’s the players who cross the white line.
“It’s just not quite clicking at the minute but it’s still early doors.
“I think winning against City on the opening day has just put more pressure on him.
“It’s not going to fall into place right away, the new signings need time to bed in.
“Sometimes you need to go through this crisis period in order to come out the other end a better manager and therefore a better team.”
Tottenham have conceded nine goals in the last three Premier League matches, including consecutive London derby defeats against rivals Chelsea and Arsenal.
The north London side are in Europa Conference League action tonight against Slovenian minnows Mura.
