Whelan thrilled by what he's heard from 'incredible' Llorente at Leeds
Noel Whelan has been left raving over the mental strength shown by Diego Llorente since arriving at Leeds United.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he has been wowed by the 27-year-old’s mental strength.
Speaking to Leeds’ official website, Llorente admitted moving to England required a “big adaptation” and that he had a “difficult” start to life at Elland Road.
Llorente featured just once for Leeds before the turn of the year due to injury.
However, he started all but one of the Whites’ final 14 games of the season.
Whelan heralded the Spaniard’s strength of character.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “He’s there admitting he didn’t expect that kind of physicality and adapting to new life, a new country and a new league.
“Sometimes it takes foreign players a season, season and a half, to come to grips with it. Considering what he had to go through, it’s never a good time when you’re injured and you come to a new club, a new country.
“That’s the last thing you need. It can mentally and psychologically hurt you at times because you want to be hitting the ground running as quickly as possible.
“But, saying that, when you see how incredible he was in the heart of the defence, he’s adapted pretty quickly.
“He’s learned a lot within that short space of time. He had to adapt his game a little bit and be that little bit more physical considering what he was up against.”
Llorente scored his first goal for Leeds in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool in April.
He has played 15 times for the Whites to date.
