Whelan tips Leeds to sweep Norwich away after ‘massive’ early team news

Noel Whelan has insisted Leeds United should take “no less than three points” from Saturday’s clash against “wounded animal” Norwich City.

The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Yorkshire club need to take the “confidence” gained from last weekend’s draw against Wolves into the game at Carrow Road.

Leeds United will be boosted ahead of the clash by positive injury news about stars Jamie Shackleton and Raphinha.

As quoted by Leeds Live after the Whites’ League Cup loss against Arsenal on Tuesday, Marcelo Bielsa said he “thinks” the duo should be able to take part in the Norwich game.

Both players missed the 2-0 defeat at the Emirates Stadium.

Norwich are winless with only one Premier League point this term, while Leeds United have picked up just one victory – a 1-0 triumph over Watford.

Whelan suggested the first goal in this weekend’s clash will have a “massive” bearing on the outcome of the game.

“They should be aiming for no less than three points,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“It’s so important that we take something away from the away games. They’ll be hurting after conceding seven, and they’ll have worked on defending after that defeat.

“We may have to stay patient during the game, but I do think that the first goal will be massive – especially away from home.

“We need to go there and take the confidence from last week – because that Wolves result felt like a win.

“The players should be full of confidence and belief that they can win the game.

“They’re a wounded animal but we need to step up and be better than the last two games.”
