Noel Whelan claims Leeds United are likely to offload Ryan Edmondson in January as Marcelo Bielsa “doesn’t trust him”.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider editor Wayne Veysey, the ex-United forward believes it’s inevitable the striker will head out of Elland Road in the winter window, probably on loan.
Edmondson, 18, was the subject of strong interest from EFL clubs during the summer, up until the deadline for League One and League Two transfers at the beginning of September.
Bielsa put the block on Edmondson leaving as he wanted him as back-up to senior strikers Eddie Nketiah and Patrick Bamford.
However, the teenage forward has not only failed to add to the two senior appearances he made last year he has also yet to be named in a single matchday squad this season.
“I would think he’s almost certain to go on loan in January if he remains out of the squad,” Whelan told Football Insider. “He will want to go on loan, as he will feel ready for senior football.
“He’s been banging in the goals for the Under-23s, but there comes a time when you out-grow that level and need to play against professionals.
“Edmondson doesn’t seem to be making any headway and it’s telling he wasn’t even on the bench against QPR when Eddie Nketiah pulled out.
“Marcelo Bielsa doesn’t trust him.”
Capped by England at Under-19s level, Edmondson continued his impressive scoring exploits with a goal in the 1-1 draw against Burnley on Monday of last week.
