Whelan wowed by Leeds starlet Bogusz as 'delightful' footage emerges

Noel Whelan has raved after Leeds United starlet Mateusz Bogusz scored a sublime goal on loan at UD Ibiza.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, heralded the 19-year-old’s “intelligence” and “quick thinking” to chip the Al Raed goalkeeper on Wednesday.

In a video shared by Lukasz Maciongowski, an agent for ICM Stellar Sports, on Twitter, Bogusz runs onto the ball just inside the penalty box and executes a perfect lob to score.

The teenager joined second-tier side Ibiza on a season-long loan from Leeds earlier this month.

Whelan lauded the young midfielder for his goal-scoring exploits and insisted it bodes well for the future at both his loan side and Leeds.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “What a goal. That just shows the quality and quick thinking of the player.

“The execution of the finish, some people would have just turned and shot. No, he knew where the space was, he knew what he had to do. It was a delightful, well-controlled chip over the keeper.

“None of the defenders on the line could have done anything about it. That’s just testament to the intelligence of that midfield player.

“He’s gone out there and is showing he’s got so much to offer the club.

“It’s not about going out on a day trip to Ibiza and clubs. You can look at the name of the club and think he’s just there for a jolly but no.

“I think he’s proven his experience from playing at Leeds, that professionalism from playing at Leeds, he’s got a job to do there.”

Bogusz also spent last season on loan in Spain at UD Logrones.

He has played three times for Leeds’ senior side to date.
