'Where is the chairman?' - Chris Sutton gives damning Rangers verdict after loss v Celtic
Chris Sutton has slammed Rangers after their insipid performance in their 5-0 loss to Celtic on Sunday, and has claimed that even with Jose Mourinho or Pep Guardiola in charge of them they would still be miles behind their bitter rivals.
He also claimed that unless favourite to be the next Gers boss Steven Gerrard receives a huge transfer budget from Dave King then he would be as well not talking the job.
He also criticised no one from the Ibrox club from putting their head above the parapet and speaking to the media after the game.
“Unless Gerrard – or anyone else – gets significant backing financially then he’ll have no chance,” Sutton said, as quoted in the Daily Record.
“The question is how much money would he get? Where is it coming from? Who is in charge of signing players? Where is the chairman?
“It’s a mess. Never mind Gerrard, Rangers could bring in Pep Guardiola or Jose Mourinho and they would still be miles behind Celtic.”

Sutton is being over the top as usual, but he is correct that should Gerrard take the job then he will need to be backed massively in the transfer market in the summer. The Gers have wasted the last year in all honesty, as they are still miles behind Celtic and seem to have spent lots of money on management and players who have no idea about getting to the top of Scottish football. That is why the appointment of Gerrard or whoever the next manager is is so important for the Ibrox side, they can’t run the risk of wasting another year and falling further behind the Hoops.
