‘Who let him play for Wolves?’ – Premier League fans stunned by new signing’s debut vs Chelsea
Angel Gomes made his debut for Wolves against Chelsea on Saturday after completing his loan move from Marseille.
Wolves agreed a loan deal with Marseille for Gomes that contains an option to buy at the end of the season, reportedly worth around £6million.
It was not too long ago that the midfielder was playing for England, with the Premier League‘s bottom club appearing to have secured a large coup.
Gomes made his debut as Chelsea beat Wolves 3-1 on Saturday, with the midfielder playing 79 minutes before he was substituted.
Wolves sold Jorgen Strand Larsen to Crystal Palace and lost several other players in the transfer window, but the arrival of Gomes has been a big positive.
Premier League fans in shock at Angel Gomes debut
Gomes came up through the Man United academy, and has been linked with a return to the Premier League for several years.
The midfielder impressed massively during his time at Lille, and fit in perfectly well when Lee Carsley gave him his first England caps.

On Saturday, the 25-year-old instantly looked at home. Starting in a double pivot alongside Joao Gomes, the Englishman constantly showed for the ball, spreading it with purpose.
Wolves fans have often complained that their midfielders are too negative with their passing, but there was no semblance of that with Gomes.
The former Red Devil’s every action was forward-thinking, constantly feeding Mateus Mane with balls over the top.
After footage of his debut performance appeared, Premier League fans reacted with shock that the midfielder has signed for Wolves.
“Who let him play Wolves?” One fan wrote after seeing the video, while another posted: “He’s so good man, don’t understand why he made the move to Wolves though”.
Another fan had high praise for Gomes, claiming that he is the “closest thing England have to Vitinha/Joao Neves”.
In a similar fashion, a Chelsea fan asked: “How did anyone let Wolves have him?”
What Rob Edwards said about Gomes debut
Wolves manager Rob Edwards expressed his delight at the signing of Gomes after the midfielder’s arrival had been confirmed on transfer deadline day.
And he would have been even more pleased by the performance that followed, despite the disappointing result.
“I thought they were brave, worked incredibly hard, showed lots and lots of quality,” he said about both Gomes and other new signing Adam Armstrong.
“Angel got on the ball and looked to try and make things happen, was really busy and bright.” “Very very pleased – I thought they were both a big plus for us,” he added.
