Leeds must gain promotion to keep transformed 25-year-old amid £15m PL interest

Leeds could risk losing talisman Chris Wood to a Premier League club if they don’t achieve promotion this season.

The transformed 25-year-old has been influential in the club’s push towards promotion this campaign and will have caught the attention from some top-flight clubs.

In January, there were reports of £15million interest from the likes of Sunderland and West Ham as Premier League clubs eyed prolific scorers in the lower divisions.

The Whites look set to finish in the play-off positions if they can hold off the eight-point gap they have over the chasing pack.

Garry Monk’s side have had several star performers help the team reach fifth in the league table, but forward Chris Wood has been the most crucial.

The New Zealand international has scored a fantastic 21 goals in just 33 games across all competitions and must have aspirations of playing in the Premier League during his career.

He has proven that he can be prolific in front of goal and has been the main driving force behind the Whites’ promotion push.

Wood watched his ex-club Leicester go on to win the Premier League title last season and saw several of his former team-mates lift the crown in dramatic fashion.

The striker failed to have his big break with the Foxes, but is proving at Elland Road that he is a natural goalscorer.

Wood will hope to get close to 30 goals in the Championship this season and it would be hard to imagine a big club not coming in for his signature if Leeds fail to achieve promotion.
