Why Tottenham academy product can become first name in Pochettino’s side

By Dominic Toner

Tottenham ace Harry Winks has burst into the first-team this season and has the potential to become a crucial player.

The Spurs academy product is already regarded as an important member of the squad, but has the potential to be the first name on the team sheet under Mauricio Pochettino over the next few years.

The 21-year-old central midfielder is currently competing for a spot in the starting line-up and has been the first replacement for Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele.

He has made a seamless transition into the senior squad this season since breaking through the club’s academy, following in the footsteps of team-mate Harry Kane.

Winks is a player that Spurs should look to build their team around as he offers something different in the centre of the park.

The England Under-21 international has already shown how he can dominate games in the Premier League with his ability in possession.

Pochettino should look to make him a permanent fixture in the starting XI as he can help Spurs control matches.

Several of Europe’s leading sides have found success with a midfield maestro pulling the string and that is a role that Winks has the potential to fulfil.

He has time on his side to develop both the attacking and defensive aspects of his game, but definitely has the basics in place to be a mainstay in the Spurs line-up.
