Wilfred Ndidi sends emotional Leicester farewell message after Jamie Vardy’s last

Wilfred Ndidi has paid tribute after Jamie Vardy’s time in a Leicester City shirt officially came to an end.

Over the last 13 years, the striker has developed into arguably the club’s greatest player of all time, not least by playing a key role in their Premier League and FA Cup title wins in 2016 and 2021 respectively.

Last month though, Vardy announced that he would be leaving Leicester at the end of this season, when his contract with the club expired.

On Sunday (18 May), he then played his final game for the club, as they welcomed Ipswich Town to the King Power Stadium.

It proved to be the perfect send off, with Vardy scoring his 200th goal for Leicester in his 500th appearance for the club, in a 2-0 win.

It has already been confirmed that the 38-year-old will not be taking part when the Foxes play Bournemouth in their final game of the season on Sunday (25 May).

As a result, the club took to Instagram on Wednesday (21 May), to post a series of images of Vardy during his final day at the club’s training ground.

Ndidi then responded by sharing that post to his own Instagram story, and adding the caption: “What a guy! A guy wey sabi. Goal machine.

“It’s been a pleasure to share same dressing room with you for years. You are an inspiration on and off the pitch. All the best for what comes next”.

With the striker not set to retire even after he has left Leicester, there has been plenty of speculation of where he might go next.

Football Insider recently reported that Crystal Palace are have held talks over a move to sign Vardy on a free transfer this summer.

Meanwhile, this season’s League One promotion winners Wrexham have also been discussed as a potential destination for the Leicester legend.

Leicester City facing a tough summer

Football Insider Verdict

With relegation from the Premier League long since confirmed and fresh PSR issues now emerging, this is looking like it will be a difficult period for the Foxes.

Those problems are not going to make it easy for the club to bounce back quickly, which will in turn make it hard for them to keep hold of key players.

Vardy’s experience and ability already represents a big loss for Leicester, and Ndidi is another who can have a positive influence on this side.

But given interest in him also feels inevitable, it would be no huge surprise if he was to follow the striker out of the door at the King Power Stadium this summer.
