Wilfried Gnonto doesn't want to take pay cut after source's Leeds United exit reveal - pundit

Alan Hutton has told Leeds United to get rid of “unhappy” players who want to leave if they are relegated to the Championship.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said players don’t want to take big pay cuts if their side are demoted and will try to leave as a result.

On 13 April, sources told Football Insider that Leeds are expecting to make £36million profit on Wilfried Gnonto if they sell him this summer.

The 19-year-old is attracting interest from Premier League and Serie A sides and it’s understood the Whites would face a tough battle to keep hold of the forward if they are relegated.

Gnonto’s current contract at Elland Road runs until 2027 after joining from FC Zurich in summer 2022 in a deal worth around £4million but could already be heading for the exit.

The Whites are expected to demand £40m for the attacker in order to let him leave this summer.

When asked if Leeds will have to drop their asking price if they are relegated, Hutton told Football Insider:What do you do? Do you have an unhappy player that does not want to be there in the Championship.

They have probably got within their contracts where if you go down you get half your money, that is what happens to a lot of these teams. Therefore a lot of people want to leave.

Do you have an unhappy player? Or do you sell them for as much as possible and get them out the club and use the money to reinvest.

In other news, Leeds seriously impressed by ‘next Bielsa’ who’s stayed under the radar at Championship club.
