Wilfried Gnonto: Leeds United star could miss two months – sources

Leeds United star Wilfried Gnonto could be out until November or, at worst, early December after undergoing ankle surgery, sources have told Football Insider.

Daniel Farke has already confirmed Gnonto would be missing until after this month’s international break due to the operation on his ankle.

Football Insider understands that the worst-case scenario for striker is that he could be sidelined for up to eight weeks.

The 19-year-old was subbed off in the first half during last week’s 0-0 draw with Hull City after tangling with defender Scott Twine and is now facing a lengthy spell out of the first team.

The winger has netted one goal in six appearances so far this season after looking set to depart Elland Road during the summer window.

Gnonto ultimately remained in Yorkshire and his current contract runs until 2027.

Football Insider revealed last month that the club are willing to offer the attacker improved terms as the prepare to open new contract talks.

The Whites are keen to avoid speculation over a potential exit in January after a tumultuous summer window where the player fell out with the club hierarchy and, for a period, was training alone.

Everton have held an interest in the player but couldn’t manage to agree a deal in the summer.

According to Capology, the youngster earns £20,000-a-week at the club.

Gnonto is one of the lowest earners at the club following his arrival last year with four years remaining on his deal.
