Brendan Rodgers has a lot of thinking to do before he names the Celtic team that will take on Zenit in the first leg of the Europa League last 32 tie on Thursday night.
The Hoops boss has almost an entire first XI of players out injured, if only two or three of those players were available it would give the Hoops a far better chance of defeating Roberto Mancini’s side.
He also has to deal with players who are fit and out-of-form, such as Moussa Dembele, Scott Sinclair, and Jozo Simunovic.
The 23-year-old centre-back turned in a dreadful performance against Partick Thistle in the Bhoys’ recent 3-2 victory over the Jags, he arguably was at fault for both goals the Hoops conceded.
He was axed once before this season, after the 4-0 loss to Hearts in December, and in normal circumstances he wouldn’t play against Zenit.
However, with the chronic aforementioned injury problems that the Hoops have, the 23-year-old is the most experienced centre-back that’s currently fit at the club.
His experience in Europe may persuade Rodgers to give him the nod over new signing Jack Hendry, and he would once again team up with Kristoffer Ajer, who is set for his first Celtic start in Europe.
The Hoops boss has a big decision to make, can Simunovic be relied upon not to make any mistakes? Only time will tell.
