William Saliba, Jacob Ramsey react to Aston Villa ace Lucas Digne amid exit rumours

Arsenal centre-back William Saliba and Jacob Ramsey reacted to a message from Aston Villa defender Lucas Digne as exit rumours swirl.

The Villains find themselves in a precarious position this summer after narrowly avoiding a PSR punishment, before receiving a fine from UEFA for failing their financial rules.

Villa sold their women’s team to V Sports, the parent company that owns the club, but the European governing body does not allow sales of that ilk to be registered as profit on a club’s accounts.

With both governing bodies breathing down the Midlands club’s neck, the Villains have to be careful about how much they spend this summer.

If they want to add to Unai Emery’s squad, Villa will have to contend with selling a player like Ramsey or Digne.

Lucas Digne shares training ground update

After a calamitous start to the summer, things have calmed down a little at Villa as the club prepares for their pre-season tour of the USA.

Digne shared an image of himself in training on Instagram ahead of their friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt, captioned: “Sunset”.

The post was liked by France teammate Saliba, and Villa teammate Ramsey, with the pair showing support for the left-back.

Aston Villa should cash in on interest in Digne

Football Insider Verdict

Sources told Football Insider in June that Atletico Madrid were interested in a move for Digne after their move for Liverpool’s Andy Robertson fell through.

Nothing came of that interest, and the Spanish giants have since signed Matteo Ruggeri from Atalanta to fill their void at left-back.

However, Villa will likely consider offers for Digne this summer, should another team show interest.

For as good as he has been, the Frenchman is now 32 years old, and his current contract expires at the end of next season.

Given Villa have issues financially, and Ian Maatsen is ready to take over at left-back, it would make sense to cash in on Digne this summer as opposed to losing him for free next year.
