William Saliba to Real Madrid: Transfer Guru shares ‘big’ update today
Real Madrid are “definitely” looking to make Arsenal star William Saliba their latest superstar signing amid their ongoing defensive issues.
That is according to former Man United and Tottenham scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 23-year-old is a top target at the Bernabeu.
This comes after Football Insider revealed on 18 November that Arsenal are expected to block any advances from Madrid and will not be allowed to leave the club.
David Alaba, Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal have all picked up cruciate ligament injuries, with the latter two players ruled out for the rest of the season.
As a result, Saliba has been identified as a potential option to bolster their defence while he is also viewed as their potential starting defender for “the next ten years.”
However, he remains a crucial player in Mikel Arteta’s side and has started 15 games so far this season, missing just one league game through suspension.
Real Madrid plotting move to sign William Saliba from Arsenal
Football Insider revealed on 15 November that Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite is another name on Madrid’s list of targets and they could now push to get a move done.
Brown, who spent over a decade at Man United during their most successful period and has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment, warned that an offer from Real Madrid may prove difficult for any player to turn down.
“If Real Madrid want somebody, they usually get them,” he told Football Insider.
“From what I’ve heard, he’s definitely one of the players they’re looking at and their interest is big.
“They’re in the market for a new defender because of the injury crisis they’ve got on their hands.
“But with Saliba, he’s one who they’ll think could come in and be at the club for ten years playing in that position because of his age.
“Real Madrid are always keen to sign the best players in every position, it’s what they do.
“Saliba has a very good reputation that he’s built up from his time at Arsenal, so it’s no surprise to see Madrid are interested in signing him.

“It’s like when Ronaldo was at United, Sir Alex convinced him to stay for another year and then let him go.
“It’s very difficult for any player to turn down Real Madrid. Ronaldo was like a god at United and he still wanted to go. That’s the sort of club we’re talking about.“
