Williams could leave Liverpool in January after confirmed news – pundit

Neco Williams should leave Liverpool if he wants to play regular first-team football.

That is according to Kevin Campbell, who was speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 20-year-old’s Anfield future.

As quoted by club media last Friday (November 19th), Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp ruled out a loan exit for Williams in January – insisting the Welshman is “developing” at the club and urging him to “fight through the situation”.

The full-back earned just his second start of the season last night as the Merseyside club dispatched Porto in the Champions League,

Williams has played just seven minutes of Premier League football this term.

Campbell insisted the decision rests squarely on the youngster’s shoulders – and claimed he should only leave for a starting berth elsewhere.

“When you have a successful squad, you need someone – at times – to step in,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“I know Milner has been the guy who can play anywhere and do everything, but you do need young, vibrant players who are happy to be at the club and get some game time.

“The difference is that Williams is a Welsh international, and he may well want to be starting games.

“If that’s the case, then obviously he needs to leave. But for two or three seasons, to be understudy to Trent Alexander-Arnold is not such a bad thing – I believe there will be periods where he can play football.”

“The key is the trust of the manager. If Klopp trusts him then he will get game time. It’s all down to him – if he wants regular football he will have to leave.”
