Wilson Isidor sends stunned message over major Sunderland controversy
Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor took to social media to express his confusion after his disallowed goal in the match against Derby County.
Regis Le Bris’ side secured a 1-0 victory over the Rams on 21 January, thanks to a first-half goal from Eliezer Mayenda that earned all three points.
Isidor was eager to redeem himself after missing two controversial late penalties in the previous match against Burnley. However, another contentious decision arose during the clash with Derby.
Jobe Bellingham sent a ball over the top, which Enzo Le Fee controlled before laying it off to Isidor. The striker fired it into the net, seemingly doubling Sunderland’s lead to 2-0.
The decision to disallow the goal took several minutes to confirm, with play continuing in the meantime. Ultimately, the goal was ruled out.
Fans and pundits debated whether the decision was due to Le Fee handling the ball or a Derby defender being shrugged off during the build-up. However, Sunderland later confirmed on X that the goal was disallowed for a controversial offside.
Sunderland and Wilson Isidor left puzzled by disallowed goal
Isidor has been active on social media recently, sharing both apologies for his missed penalties against Burnley and excitement over Le Fee joining the team.
After the full-time whistle against Derby, Isidor took to X to share his thoughts, posting: “Don’t even know what to say…” followed by three laughing emojis.
He followed up by saying: “But +3 points, great performance from the team, we move on! See you Saturday at the SoL [Stadium of Light]. Thanks to the fans for the support, you are the best.”
The match against Derby could have ended in a nervy finish, especially after the disallowed goal.
However, Sunderland held firm to secure a vital three points, keeping them in third place and just two points shy of the automatic promotion spots.
