Newcastle United have been “crying out” for a super-quick striker like Callum Wilson for a long time, according to Darren Bent.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former England striker delivered a glowing verdict on Wilson after he grabbed a debut goal in Newcastle’s 2-0 win over West Ham on Saturday.
The 28-year-old joined the Magpies from Bournemouth last week after they beat Aston Villa to his signature, as revealed by Football Insider.

The striker was joined by his ex-Cherries teammate Ryan Fraser who he combined for a record 12 goals with in the 2018/19 season.
However, Bent was left wowed by Wilson’s link up play with Jonjo Shelvey at the London Stadium.
The former Spurs ace told Football Insider: “The icing on the cake for me was Callum Wilson. He looked strong, he looked powerful, he looked fit, he looked hungry.
“What I liked about the Newcastle performance, which is why I think they’ll cause problems, not only have you got (Miguel) Almiron on the bench, you’ve got (Allan) Saint-Maximin on the pitch and Andy Carroll doing his Andy Carroll thing, holding it up, winning headers.
“There’s times where Callum Wilson is on the shoulder and Jonjo Shelvey is not even looking but he just slides it down the side, putting it in behind the defenders and Callum Wilson is away, he’s off, because he’s that quick and powerful he can get Newcastle up the pitch.
“I thought his performance was superb, I’m glad he got his goal and he is what Newcastle have been crying out for, for a long time.”
