Nigel Winterburn questions future of senior Arsenal man after Bournemouth draw
By Will Butcher
Nigel Winterburn believes Arsene Wenger’s future will be in jeopardy at Arsenal if he fails to deliver a title challenge this season.
The Gunners failed to secure an expected three points against Bournemouth on Tuesday night, as they drew 3-3 at the Vitality Stadium despite being 3-0 down.
Speaking to Sky Sports’ Premier League Daily Show on Tuesday, Winterburn revealed that Wenger will find himself under intense scrutiny as his contract nears its end.
“If they are not within four or five points of the top come April, then Arsene Wenger will come under pressure because his contract has not been sorted,” Winterburn claimed.
“I still think they have the quality to finish in the top four, but that isn’t enough. They need to be challenging for the title.”

Olivier Giroud’s 92nd-minute equaliser saw the Gunners rescue a point against Eddie Howe’s side, after Alexis Sanchez and Lucas Perez had offered the north London giants hope.
With Wenger’s contract set to expire in the summer, the pressure is on the Frenchman to show Arsenal chiefs why he deserves a new deal.
Currently sitting in fourth, fifth-placed Tottenham have a game in hand over their north London rivals and will be hoping to make that count against Chelsea on Wednesday night.
However, Mauricio Pochettino’s side will be up against it as they face Antonio Conte’s league leaders who will be looking to stretch their sparkling run to a record-equalling 14 straight wins.
During his 20 years with Arsenal, Wenger has secured three Premier League titles, six FA Cups and a Champions League runners-up medal as well as masterminding the Invincibles.
In other Arsenal news, the Gunners will announce their first January signing by Thursday.
