‘Wirtz update amid Liverpool fan fears as tearful Harvey Elliott pushed to exit’

Florian Wirtz’s move to Liverpool continues to develop despite its complexities and it may have a knock-on effect for Harvey Elliott.

The Reds were cautious last summer in their transfer dealings, signing Federico Chiesa from Juventus and Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, with the Georgian shot-stopper remaining in Spain on a year-long loan.

But after winning their second Premier League title this century, Arne Slot’s side looks set for a busy summer, starting with the signings of Jeremie Frimpong and Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

Whilst the deal for the Dutchman seems on the verge of completion, the same cannot be said for the German playmaker’s move to Anfield.

According to MailOnline, fans have their concerns about the deal, and signing Wirtz will also likely have consequences for Elliott’s Liverpool career.

Florian Wirtz transfer ‘complex’ as deal ‘accelerates’ Harvey Elliott’s Liverpool exit

As reported, while fans are worried over the time the Wirtz deal is taking to complete, the “complex” deal was never going be straightforward in terms of finances.

Liverpool, however, are reportedly confident and things are progressing in the right direction for a club-record move.

As for Elliott, who was in tears at Anfield after their match against Crystal Palace, Wirtz’s arrival is seen as likely to accelerate his exit from the club with a number of teams in England and Germany keen on him.

The attacking midfielder has hinted that this could be the end of the road for him, although the prospect of a Liverpool departure isn’t something the 22-year-old is thought to be desperate for.

Harvey Elliott could join Nottingham Forest this summer as Gibbs-White replacement

Football Insider Verdict

Having made his debut for Fulham as a 15-year-old and then signed for Liverpool as a 16-year-old, it is often easy to forget just how young Elliott still is.

Which is why it is somewhat surprising that the Reds are willing to let the attacking midfielder leave the club this summer.

It’s fair to say Elliott is yet to live up to the hype that surrounded him when he broke through at Craven Cottage, but for as much as he loves being a Liverpool player, it has never been a comfortable tactical fit for the 22-year-old.

Thriving behind a striker, the 4-3-3 that was deployed by Jurgen Klopp limited the ex-Fulham man’s minutes, and likely his development too.

Football Insider revealed on 9 May that Nottingham Forest were interested in signing Elliott this summer.

If Morgan Gibbs-White departs, that would then allow the Liverpool man to play in a system that favours his skillset, but more importantly, the Tricky Trees can offer him more first-team minutes.

Elliott is well-liked at Anfield, but if he is to get anywhere near the levels that were expected of him, moving on this summer may be crucial.

Ian Darke revealed exclusively to Liverpool News that Elliott could “walk” into several Premier League starting XI’s.
